The Spike Non-Line-of-Sight (NLOS) missile system from Lockheed Martin has been selected by the United States Army for the first phase of the Mobile-Long Range Precision Strike Missile (M-LRPSM) competition.

The project involves the development and testing of a precision-guided missile prototype for use by Infantry Brigade Combat Teams (IBCT).

During demonstrations held at Dugway Proving Grounds in Utah, three missiles successfully hit their targets, including two shots without a direct line of sight. The tests highlighted Spike NLOS’s capability to engage long-range targets from mobile IBCT platforms, filling a gap for the Army in ground-launched precision strikes by light combat formations.

Spike NLOS is already qualified for use on the AH-64E Apache attack helicopter and Oshkosh tactical vehicles for special operations. Lockheed Martin aims to adapt this “mature” system for the M-LRPSM competition, accelerating its implementation, with safety testing and a new selection phase planned before the final decision.
